WASHING DREADS
Wash
them whenever you want, but remember – the more
often you wash them, the more often you have to fix
them. There are people who wash their dreads
everyday, once a week or even once a month!!! If you
wash them rarely you don’t have to spend hours on
fixing them, but they may stink (specially in summer
when you sweat more) ;)
We recommend you to
use herbal shampoos (with nettle, chamomile or
turnip) or shampoos for children– thanks to these
shampoos hair are asperate and they are not getting
out of dreads. Never use shampoos with conditioner
because your hair will be slippery! There are people
who wash their dreads with ordinary soap. If you
decide to do that remember not to wash the skin of
your head, only dreads. (it may lead to dandruff).
THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T DO EVEN WHEN SOMEONE ADVISE IT
TO YOU
-
Rubbing ashes. It
doesn’t help at all. Dreads are not going to be
as hard as rock, but they will definitely stink.
If you don’t believe – try to do that :)
-
Don’t cut hair
which stick out of your dreads. This may lead to
situation that dreads will be slimmer than
before.
-
Don’t rub your
dreads with wool. It electrifies your hair
(which is good) but it also brakes them. The
mess on your head will be bigger :)
TRENDY WAX
Wax is quite popular
and there are pros and cons of using it. If you
decide to use a wax remember that rubbing may take a
lot of time and during it you should use a hairdryer
(to melt a wax). After using wax you should fix your
dreads. We don’t recommend you to use wax, because
it really doesn’t help dreads to be as hard as rock.
It only makes them to be slippery and sticky and
every little piece of dust will stick to your
dreads.
BEFORE MAKING DREADS / FIXING
You
should wash your hair / dreads just like always. If
you want us to make/fix your dreads you should wash
your hair/dreads the day before our meeting. Hair
should be dry and clean because it helps to dread
them. On the other hand – nobody likes to touch
dirty things ;)
Of course before
making dreads you should decide on thickness of your
future dreads. It is possible to change dreads from
thin to thick but not in the opposite way. You
should also think about parting (if you want to have
it or not). We advise you not to make parting
because after some time (when hair grow) the mess on
your head would be more visible.
AFTER MAKING DREADS
It’s
not truth that you can’t wash your head for a
month!!! You shouldn’t wash dreads as long as you
manage (but 2 weeks is enough) but you can wash your
head :) During the washing your head you dreads can
get wet, but try not to cuff them :) Well… We can’t
imagine that someone doesn’t wash his head for a
month. That must stink a lot! ;)
DYEING
If
you want your dreads to be as hard as rock you
should dye them. Dyes kill your hair ;) and make
them more asperate (that is good for dreads) If you
want to be offbeat you should try to dye your dreads
with different colors (for example dread can be
black and his ending can be yellow) :) |
